Premiere Pro CC - Stalls After Project Launch / Generating Peak Files & Conforming Video

Hello,

I've been struggling to open and work on a project which has previously functioned normally for many months. It's a feature-length documentary so it's rather hefty, media-wise. I have over 15TB spread across two external drives and a ton of sequences. All of this was operational until I tried opening the project again this week after about a month of not touching it.

Now, upon project launch, Premiere spends a great deal of time locating the media. It then asks me to locate about half of the previously allocated media files, which it seems to do successfully, albeit after considerable processing. After this, I am faced with a dead black screen and a frozen program (which, however, doesn't claim to be "not responding").

I have updated Windows 10 to its latest version. Same for Adobe, Premiere itself, and all drivers, including my graphics card.

I came across a workaround in this forum that seemed to be working but resulted in another freeze. It was to load another project (this worked) and to import the problem project into that one. This prompted me to locate the media again and eventually loaded the last sequence in the film I recall working on. The Program Monitor even shows the frame where the playhead is. Yet neither of these screens are responsive. I just see a seemingly endless generation of peak files below while the rest of the program remains frozen from any input.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated as I've been stop-gapped here for days.

Many thanks in advance.

Madison

I'm having essentially the exact same problem. The difference is that I have been working on my project (also a documentary with lots of interview files) constantly for the past two weeks. But over the past couple of days Premiere has been getting slower and slower, and now it is essentially useless. And the problem is occuring on more than one computer. I've tried all the same things you have (on both computers) and it only seems to make things worse.
