Premiere Pro CC - Windows 10, crashes when opening projects sent from Mac OS

I recently hired someone to help edit projects for me. They do the preliminary work, setting up sequences etc., then I jump on to do color, audio and trimming.

They work on a 2012 Macbook Pro and I have a Thinkpad running Windows 10.

I keep all my source material on duplicate external harddrives with the same file structure.

She'll send me the project files when she's done and in theory I should be able to open them and easily reconnect the media.

Premiere Pro crashes almost immediately after opening the file.

I've found a work around. If I create a "Null" project on my computer, and then open the project file sent from the Mac after Premiere is already running everything works fine. I'm able to reconnect the media without issue and work on the projects. However, I have to use this technique every-time I want to open the projects sent from the Mac.

Any ideas how to make this work without that work around?
