Premiere pro - Color correction / Gopro hero 12

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to edit my GoPro footage in Premiere Pro, but I can't seem to get the colors right.
This has been an ongoing issue for me, and I've tried several "solutions" based on older community posts and YouTube tutorials, but nothing has worked so far. I believe the problem might be happening during the export process.

To begin with, the original footage looks great on my GoPro, PC, and phone.
I'm trying to compile multiple clips into a 2-minute video and make some light color adjustments along the way (for a motovlogging video on Instagram Reels).

However, once I export the footage, the colors look noticeably worse compared to how they appear in the timeline. The colors just aren’t as vibrant, bright reds, for example, end up looking more like a dull crimson. The overall footage just looks darke. Even when I export the footage without applying any Lumetri adjustments, I still encounter the same issue. How can i make sure the footage in the timeline looks exactly the same as the export?

Here are my GoPro settings:

  • 4K

  • 4:3 aspect ratio

  • 60 fps

  • HyperSmooth

  • Auto Shutter

  • EV -0.5

  • ISO Min: 100

  • ISO Max: 1600

Export settings in Premiere Pro:

  • Frame size: 1080 x 1920 pixels

  • Frame rate: 30fps

  • Format: H.264

  • Preset: Match Source – High Bitrate

  • VBR, 2-pass

  • Bitrate target: 8–12 Mbps

Solutions I’ve tried:

  • Exporting in ProRes 422 (slightly better results)

  • Using Adobe’s Gamma Compensation LUT

  • Viewing via WebPlayer 2.2

If anyone has experienced something similar or knows how to fix this, I’d really appreciate your help!

Thanks in advance.

Hi naveen_8968,

Welcome to the community! We need more details to diagnose it properly. Let us know the version of Pr that you are using and if the media was captured in the log profile/HDR mode. Please share a screenshot showing the difference in the previews & a screenshot of the configurations under Lumetri Color > Settings tab. A new color management workflow has been introduced in the latest version of Pr. Here’s a link that covers how to fix some common color-related problems.

Thanks,

Sumeet
