Premiere pro corrupt files

Hi, Ive been editing a project for 2 weeks and premiere pro just randomly crashed causing my file to be corrupt. Somehow during one of the premiere pro updates auto save was turned off…….. so I don't have any auto save files to go back too.

Is there anyway to recover my project or has adobe royally screwed me?

I have been working on a project for several weeks . I shut it down 2 nights ago, and when I opened it yesterday it keeps crashing. i have opened autosaved file, it still crashes. I have imported the project into a new project; it still crashes after every few minutes. I’m using Adobe 25.6.5, and have reinstalled the software but still encounter the same problem. I have tried everything.

I had the same issue. Lost all my work. I’m currently finishing the first of 3 similar projects in Premiere 2025 just to be safe. The auto save versions shut down and crash my when I open them after a few minutes, and my original working files have a warning now that say the files are broken.

Sometimes opening a corrupt Premiere project through After Effects can help clean up errors in the code.

Open After Effects and go to File > Import > Import Adobe Premiere Pro Project
If the project successfuly opens, save it back to a Premiere Pro format with File > Export > Export Adobe Premiere Project

At this time, there might not be any really useful help we can give fo that project, and I’ve been there. It’s a huge burn.

One of the things experienced computer users of all app types often try to get across to others ... is never ever EVER!!!!! trust a computer.

Never ever trust autosave ... if you have 20 saves set, at five minute intervals ... and then get a corrupt data bit appearing in a sequence or project meta, but it doesn’t appear while you’re working ... in one hour and 40 minutes of working, if the auto-save works perfectly ... you do not have an un-corrupted file anymore even with autosave working perfectly.

Files on drives can get random bad bits. Drives can develop issues. Nothing on a computer is above this behavior.

So for those of us that have used a computer for major business use for forty years now, doing a manual iterative save with copy to another drive is just something you do at least once every day you work on a file. Then you only get shafted if two drives go down.

And yes, I do have autosave on and set to five/20. Though I’ve only once ever actually used one of those auto-saves. Several times I’ve simply copied an iterative back to the ‘working’drive to re-do a couple hours of work and keep going.

Computers are great until they’re meaner than snot.
