Premiere Pro crashes when importing still images

PP CC2018 12.1.1 is crashing on PC when importing still images, and adding type layers and color mattes. Using Mercury Engine with Open CL.

Why is this happening?

Stills might be too large (height and width) and Premiere is choking on them.

Make them the same size as the timeline before import.
