Premiere Pro crashing when ingesting files

Hi,

I work on an iMac (retina 5K, 27 inch, late 2015) and just the other day I updated to mac OS High Seirra (10.13.2)

I am working on a project filmed mainly on Sony A7sii (shot in 4K) and DJI Mavic Pro shot in 2.7K. I have set the ingest settings to create proxies (H.264) so that I can manage the heavy files better. However, as I start selecting the files to ingest...the dreaded spinning rainbow wheel of death arrives and Premiere stops responding.

Any advice on how to fix this issue?

Thanks

Tom

First suggestion is you're using the wrong codec option for proxies ... creating long-GOP proxy for long-GOP originals just lessens the issue somewhat. I strongly suggest using the Cineform presets they include ... the file size of the proxies isn't a huge issue for playback, the codec can be. Cineform places far less strain on the CPU for both encoding & playback.

So ... try an ingest using the Cineform preset.

Past that, High-Si has had some issues for quite a few folks.

    Thanks Neil,

I have tried the Cineform codec and the same thing happens. In fact, it sometimes just crashes in the Assembly window, as I'm scrolling through the files in the media browser, selecting which ones to ingest. Even before I've tried to import them. It just feels like Premiere Pro is just struggling now.

    rather frustrating

    Huh. That's a right ... pain.

I did see one of the other users here post that he'd reverted from High-Si to his previous OS version via the time-thingy app on his map, reinstalled his apps, and PrPro was working fine. That's a heck of a mess to go through but ... might work.
