Question

Premiere Pro doesn't see all my RAM

PP isn't seeing all my RAM. Under Pref/Memory, it shows 32GB of installed RAM. I actually have 128 GB of DDR 4 RAM. All 8 RAM modules are the same.

Of the 32GB of RAM PP sees I am only allowed to a max of 29GB reserving 3GB for other applications.

My Windows 10 PC is current with updates as well as my GeForce Titan Z Graphics card. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled PP and ran a diagnostic test on my PC memory - all checks out fine.

The reason I suspected RAM is because of the slow rendering - 9hrs for a 3 minute clip. Many times PP crashes as well. I've tried super slow bit rate and 480p rendering.

Any suggestions?

TIA

Hey guys - thank you for your input and Happy New Year!

All RAM modules same. This morning I took out all 8 modules of RAM and tested each one by one. Turns out 2 of the 8 were bad which left me with 6 good modules. PP now sees 96GB of installed RAM which I have allocated 84GB to PP.  Seems I am still having rendering issues however and program crashes. So the case of missing RAM was solved. I'll search the forum here for answers to my rendering issues. If I cannot find a reslove I'll post a new thread dedicated to that issue.

Many thanks!

When you are rendering what do your stats look like?

Aside from the RAM issue my GPU also needed an updated driver and I believe all is good now (currently rendering in the background) . If I run into issues I can't resolve I'll create a new post dedicated to the issue.

thx for the assist

Something seems odd but before I try to help you out does Windows Taskmanger only see 32 GB of RAM? Perhaps the RAM banks are defective or the RAM is not seated 100% The video below might be helpful.

and RAM can fail.   And do all your RAM modules match?  I had issues years ago with RAM that I purchased from a company that shall remain nameless for a MacPro.  I was assured that I could mix the size of RAM modules by the seller as long as they were paired.  I had intermittent issues for about a year before I finally replaced the new RAM with modules that matched the size of the original RAM and the problems disappeared...
