  • I have video that plays fine in it's normal sequence, but when I try to put it into a 4k sequence, the playback lags even after rendering. Why does this happen? (I'm trying to put it into a 4k sequence to make my SD video into HD) also it playback perfectly in 1/2 Playback Resolution, just not when it's in full. please help thnx

Usually, slow performance is due to shortcomings in the hardware realm. In your case, it's also down to workflow. In Project Settings, make sure that your preview files are being rendered to a high speed drive, not the boot drive. You may also want to explore a different codec for your preview files. I like to use ProRes LT. You can change that in Sequence Settings > Editing Mode > Custom (scroll to top). This should improve your situation.

It would also help to know more about your hardware. What is your NLE system looking like? What computer do you use? What kind of hardware you using to serve up media? How are these drives connected? USB 3 or greater? What kind of make, model, and specs of your CPU and GPU? How much RAM are you using? Please return with these details so we can make adequate recommendations.

Observation: Usually moving the footage off your boot drive an onto a secondary SSD makes all the difference for both source and preview files, so you may want to explore that option first if that is immediately available.

Hope to hear back from you.

Thanks,
Kevin
