Premiere Pro Export Troubleshooting

I create family vlogs in the 8-20 min range. Exporting to 1080p, but does contain a fair amount of 4k footage. And last year added an insta360 x5. I have also started using a fair amount of the Film Impact effect/transitions. So that is to say that I recognize I have some heavy footage.

What I am experiencing is that Premiere Pro is able to render the sequences in 15-20 mins max while I’m editing. However, when I try to export that final sequence it can be 3-5 hours for both the direct export or Media Encoder to finish exporting the files. I’ve done the basic searching on Youtube for tricks/troubleshooting. Is there another resource out there that I can/should look into to see why it is taking so long for my videos to export?

The export hanging at 0% or crashing mid-way in Premiere Pro 2025 is often tied to GPU acceleration glitches, especially if you're using H.264/HEVC with hardware encoding.

    Quick fixes that usually work:

    • Switch Renderer to Software Only in File > Project Settings > General.
    • In Export Settings, change Video Codec to Software Encoding instead of Hardware.
    • Disable "Use Previews" and "Render at Maximum Depth" if they're on.
    • Update your GPU drivers (clean install via DDU if needed) and make sure Premiere is allowed full access in Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > App & browser control.

If it's still stuck, try a shorter test export (first 30 seconds only) to see if it's clip-specific or sequence-wide. For me, turning off hardware encoding got it exporting reliably again on an RTX 4070 setup. What codec and preset are you using?

Can you please give us your system specs/operating system and resolution/type of videos that you’re working with and exporting?

Yes, sorry. Windows 11, 32 GB RAM, 8BG NVIDIA Graphics card run by a AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor.

I’m exporting 1080 HD video. I know my hardware isn’t as heavy as others’. But this does seem to be something caused by software because I didn’t have this issue 6-12 months ago. I’m noticing that if I watch Media encoder and end the “Adobe PProHeadless 2026” task every time that Media Encoder stalls, that seems to get things going again. Pretty annoying to do, but at least it gets the file created.

How much fee space is there on the drive you are exporting to? Premiere needs at least 4-5 times the final file size free while exporting.
