Premiere Pro freezes my computer on launch
Today I tried to open Adobe Premiere Pro and my computer froze. I had to hold the power button for 5 seconds and restart. Very rare, I can't remember if this ever happened on this laptop. I tried to open Premiere Pro again, same thing. I decided to uninstall it and download the latest from the Creative Cloud (Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017). Downloaded, installed, launched... same thing. It happens every time. I've restarted my computer about 15x today, always trying something different.
Here's what I tried:
- Update Graphics Card software
- Uninstall older version of Premiere Pro and install latest from CC
- Delete folder /Users/[my user]/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Pro
- Unset read-only on /Users/[my user]/Documents/Adobe
- Run Premiere Pro in compatibility mode with option Windows 7 selected
My system specs:
- DELL XPS L521x laptop
- Intel Core i7-3632QM CPU @ 2.20GHz
- 8.00 GB RAM
- NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M
- Windows 8 64-bit
Description of the problem:
- Launch Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017
- After 1 minute or so, see splash screen
- A few seconds later, the computer freezes completely
- If Task Manager is open, it is possible to see the label 'Not Responding' as soon as the splash screen appears.
- Clicking on 'End task' makes no difference, the computer still freezes anyway.
