Question

Premiere Pro freezes when copying clips

Hi everyone,

We are experiencing really slow performance of Adobe Premiere (the bigger the projects, the worse). But there is one issue that is reproducible even in small projects with only a couple of files:

Whenever we select clips in a sequence and copy them, Premiere freezes for at least 5-10 seconds – it shows the "beach ball" and activity monitor says that Premiere is not responding (the larger the project / the more clips are selected, the longer it takes). We're not seeing a spike in neither CPU, RAM, network, nor disk access in activity monitor when this happens.

It happens in 23.6 as well as in 24 (as well as in previous versions). We had hoped that the "5x faster timeline in 24 would solve this problem, but it didn't.

The issue is the same on our M1 Mac Studios as well as on an older Intel iMac, all running Ventura 13.6 (different user settings, cleared media cache). Media files are saved on a tiger box server, using Tiger Store client via 10G Ethernet.

Any ideas / suggestions?

Thanks!

This issue still persists. In several projects, we have constant freezes (and sometimes crashes) across all workstations. We tested a sequenze via XML in DaVinci Resolve, where everything works like a breeze.

Any ideas what we could do / check to improve this situation?
