Premiere Pro Hogs Audio Crashes Web Browsers and Spotify

Hi,

When I open PP CC it crashes audio on Spotify and web browsers.

Is there a way to "share" the audio or does PP really need all the audio?

      Hey Jim,

      So here is what I found - when set to ASIO in hardware PP upon opening will take all the audio - but when I switched to MME I was able to listen to other apps on the laptop.

      So user error.

      Hi,

      Premiere Pro (PP CC) often takes exclusive control of your audio device, which can interrupt other audio sources like Spotify or web browsers. To resolve this:

      1. Disable Exclusive Mode:

        • Go to Control Panel > Sound > Playback Devices.
        • Right-click your audio device, select Properties > Advanced.
        • Uncheck "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" and click OK.

      2. Adjust Premiere Pro Audio Hardware Settings:

        • Open Premiere Pro and go to Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware.
        • Change the Default Output to match your system's audio device and ensure Output Mapping is correctly configured.

      3. Use a Virtual Audio Mixer:

        • Tools like Voicemeeter let you share audio across multiple applications seamlessly.

        That's pretty cool to know. Thanks. One might need slightly different steps if on macOS, I suppose. If you have no issues running multiple audio devices concurrently with these steps, that's great.

         

        It's not only the audio that is the issue, however. Some of these apps (Spotify, Chrome) tend to take away GPU cycles unless you take specific action within these apps, as well. This can really affect workflow and performance while editing.

         

        In general, I advise not to run other GPU-centric apps concurrently with Premiere Pro. Personally, I can't edit at all if other audio sources are playing in the background. Have fun if you can do that or if you don't really need to listen to the source audio and prefer it that way.
