Question

Premiere Pro keeps freezing on M3 Max

I just bought the Macbook Pro M3 Max 36GB RAM and was expecting lightening fast editing. I have had nothing but issues. The preview keeps freezing on one frame for like 5 minutes then it will play. I'm unable to scrub or play and it won't synchronize. I'm working off of a samsung t7 and have changed the cables, it's working fine.

I have updated to 24.1, reverted back to 23.5, 23.6, back up to 24.1, deleted preferences, made sure the little preview box was on in my media browser, and all of the other basic fixes. NOTHING HAS WORKED!!

Could it be the laptop?! Should I return it?!

The same is happening to me. I recently got a 1 TB Macbook Pro M3 Max with 36GB RAM, and Premiere pro 2024 keeps freezing. I'm editing footage that is not that heavy or complicated, and every ten minutes I am unable to play the timeline, it freezes for many seconds, even minutes at a time 😕😕

did you find any solution for this? I am considering buying m3max 36GB RSM 1TB. I had M2 Pro 16GB ram it completely failed at editing files from Sony FX30 4.2.2 camera. 10bit at 100 fps. Adobe support told me to make a proxy, but that didn't help either. The program lagged. I am afraid of losing money again, so I am strongly verifying whether M3Max can handle such files.

I'm wondering too, I had an m2 pro 16gb from work and it edited totally fine on PP, sonoma 14.3

got the same spec laptop for myself and it's been issues non stop from exporting the project, to updating to sonoma 14.6.1 and now playback is unusable as it glitches and gets hung up after a few minutes of editing, was considering upgrading to macbook pro m3 18gb (got a return for this current laptop) but now it seems there are tons of issues on the M3 Pro

Hi there!

Sorry about the trouble. Does it happen with a specific project? If so, can you share the media details like codec/ format, frame rate, frame size? Can you try updating Premiere Pro and see if that helps?

Let us know.

Thanks,

KR
