Premiere Pro Timeline Playhead Lag

I’m trying to edit in a multicam sequence timeline. I did a similar project a few weeks ago without issue. When I press play or more often when I switch cameras, my playhead lags. Video and audio continue playing fine. First thing I did was render proxies, even though I never have to do that, that didn’t help. Muted global effects, lowered playback and paused resolution, and even turned off audio channels. My media cache automatically deletes itself and I have a ton of space. I have tried every “solution” I found in youtube videos and no answer. Which makes me suspect this is an issue on Adobe’s end.

All my playhead should be doing is tracking time and letting me know where I can cut, that’s it. No idea why only my timeline is lagging. What is it doing that is causing this lag? And how do I fix it?

I am only using max 25% of my cpu and memory load btw.

Also, this only happens when I start the playback and only for a few seconds. I cannot click or do anything in the timeline while it is frozen. ONLY THE TIMELINE IS FROZEN.

Well I fixed it. I saw another solution was to reset workspace to previous layout, did not solve it. Then I undocked my timeline and redocked it and everything is smooth again.

UPDATE: I came across an old unsolved issue similar to this where the solution was to undock the timeline and now everything runs smoothly. I do not want to do that forever. What would be causing the timeline to lag only when it’s docked?

Glad you found a temporary workaround, it's a step in the right direction! Resetting preferences can help fix bad UI behavior, have you tried that?

My next thought is that maybe your GPU needs some attention. The GPU handles UI performance (click response time, playhead movement, etc.) so that's why I'm thinking we could look that direction. The latest driver for the 4060Ti came out last month, have you updated since then? Here's a link to the latest driver for your GPU.

Let us know how it's going,

Before we can help, we need to know more about your setup. Please share your computer specs, your Premiere Pro version, and your sequence and media specs (frame rate, frame size, codec, etc.).

Also, is this issue specific to multicam, or does editing with the source media cause the same lag?

    Windows, 4060ti 16g, Ryzen 7700x, 64 gb ram, Premiere v26.3.

I don’t think anything else matters because it’s now happening in a 1080x1920 timeline with simple png or text. This was not happening last time I worked in the same timeline last month. It seems like a pre-rendering issue, like it forgets what is ahead in the timeline. Because if I play it enough times it runs fine 3 out 4 times. But it doesn’t make sense, because it runs perfectly fine past the first couple seconds after pressing play. This is infuriating.
