Premiere Pro unable to preview anamorphic footage without lagging after update

I've been editing a project which was shot in Blackmagic RAW 3K Anamorphic format, and prior to the recent Premiere update (now in 2023 as opposed to 2022) it was working fine, but now the files are lagging in the preview window to the point that it's unworkable.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Edit: appears to be a hard drive issue, but the timing is convenient

Ahh, so what's the drive setup you're using? I'm using internal SSDs for all media files these days.
