Premiere Pro v22 works normally after restart, but then hangs on subsequent starts, MacOSX 11.6.2

I've been struggling with Adobe Premiere Pro v22 on my iMac 27" Late 2014. 32GB ram.

 

After fresh restarts, the program opens and works normally. Sometimes there is a quick beachball at the beginning, but the program launches and works normally without issue. 


If I quit Premiere Pro after working in it for 30 or 40 minutes and then try launching Premiere again, the program hangs on the small opening rectangular credit screen that you first see when the program tries to open. I have to force quit to get rid of this rectangle. I can't get Adobe Premiere Pro to reopen again without rebooting the computer again - even if I force quit and try to re-launch. Usually the program will start normally again after a reboot.

 

I have tried many of the suggested fixes:

 

Resetting the preferences.

Uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Premiere Pro.

Installing an earlier version of Premiere.

 

Nothing seems to be working. 

 

Any ideas on how to fix this? Seems like my computer has enough RAM and horsepower. I'm only working on a small test project. 

 

Thanks so much for any ideas. I don't know what else to try, but haven't seen this type of issue that resolves after restart of the computer, but then hangs later on.

Sorry to bring this to you but your iMac has a 4th generation i7. The specs require at least a 6th generation intel processor:

So you'll need an iMac from at least 2016 for Premiere 2021 or 2022 to run smoothly.

Sorry to bring this to you but your iMac has a 4th generation i7. The specs require at least a 6th generation intel processor:

So you'll need an iMac from at least 2016 for Premiere 2021 or 2022 to run smoothly.

    Hello Joost, thanks so much for your feedback. I wish the Adobe Techs that worked on this issue for me would have just told me that. Instead we wasted a whole lot of time trying to fix it. I came to the same conclusion that the computer was just too old for the newer Adobe software and I jumped ship. Installed it on my new MacBook Pro with M1 chip and it runs beautifully. Apprecaite your post. Hopefully this will help someone else down the road.

      Honestly I'm surprised you're getting it to run well on that Mac at all. I have a 2014 MacBook Pro that can run v20 okay but anything beyond that is a struggle. There have definitely been some major bumps in horsepower and GPU performance in the last 7 years (M1 Macs notwithstanding), and it's no surprise that the latest version of Premiere is having issues. Hate to say it but it may be time to upgrade.

      John, well, you're right. I decided to bail out on trying to run Adobe Premiere Pro on my 2014 iMac. I spent a couple of support sessions on the phone with Adobe tech trying to fix it. It was a waste of time. I'm on Mac OS Big Sur 11.6.2. They wanted me to upgrade to Monterey after our session. Said it would fix the issue. I got off the phone and realized that late 2014 iMacs are not eligible to upgrade to Big Sur. LOL. I wish Adobe would just admit this and say the program is not compatible with certain older Macs. Would have saved me a lot of time.

       

      I'm running Premiere Pro on my new MacBook Pro M1. Working well.
