Premiere Search Stopped Giving Accurate Results

Hey there,

My project recently stopped returning proper results when using the search function in the project panel. It now just returns results for one or two bins, but not the bins with all the footage and metadata or the rest of the project (despite searching in the entire project).

Any ideas?

Found the issue, but can't fix it:

Here's two clips, one shows up in search results and the other doesn't. The majority of my clips now don't.

The one that doesn't shows "<Not Editable>" in the XMP info in the metadata panel. This is definitley the root of the problem, but I can't seem to make it editable (searchable) again.

Thanks for this. I'll add this to my comments to engineering.

Just realized this is just due to the files being 'read-only', and doesn't effect their metadata searchability. Both clips I referenced still do not respond to searching. False alarm. Problem persists.

Thanks for your help and quick replies,

    Sam

    SamWagstaff,

Might be lack of metadata. What kind of files are these? From which camera? How did you ingest them?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    Hey thanks for the reply,

They're from a few different cameras. I manually typed description metadata in each, which would return results when searched until a week or so ago. No files or assets or any material in the project will return a result even when just typing the name of the file-- except for assets in three seemingly unrelated bins.

    Hi SamWagstaff,

    Thanks for the info.

No files or assets or any material in the project will return a result even when just typing the name of the file-- except for assets in three seemingly unrelated bins.

Sorry about that. I'm speculating that the clip metadata that is supposed to be there might be missing. You're saying that the clips were searchable at some point in this project in the past, though? What happened? Did you update the project file to a new version? Let me know.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Try resetting the preferences:

FAQ: How to reset preferences in Premiere Pro?

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:

    Reset a workspace

Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.

    1. Do one of the following:
      • Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
      • Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.
