Question

Premiere shows 'Media pending' for all footage, ran through all the regular hoops to fix it

I'm at a wit's end. I've reinstalled Premiere, updated it, bought a new external and internal SSD, cleared cache, restarted a million times, closed every other program...

I'm trying to edit ProRes Raw footage, shot on Z6 with a Ninja V. I've ingested the footage on an internal SSD and an external one, both with tested read speeds above 400MB/s. But I can't escape the Media pending into Premiere crash. I'll start up a new project, import the footage (around 350GB) and try to preview it, but it'll just say Media pending, or if I'm lucky I can edit for a short time, before it'll just stop rendering the previews and crash.

Any idea? Last thing I could try is reverse to Premiere Pro CC 2020.

System specs are: 4770k, 24GB DDR3, GTX 970. Also tried on Macbook Pro 2017, but that machine is just too slow, although it loads the files just fine.

Delete the Media Cache and Media Cache files:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/faq-how-to-clear-your-media-cache-in-30-seconds-in-premiere-pro-2020/m-p/11017257/thread-id/260446?page=1

If that doesn't work, try resetting the preferences:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/faq-how-to-reset-trash-preferences-in-premiere-pro/td-p/8236158?page=1

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.
from here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/workspaces.html

If that doesn't work, try Preferences > Audio Hardware and set Input to None.

If that doesn’t work, try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site. If NVIDIA, do a clean install of the latest Studio Driver (NOT the Game Driver).

I am guessing you machine is way under powered to handle Prores raw.

Most processes are run on the cpu which is nearly 10 years old so is the gpu.

How to Easily Fix Media Pending Error (After Render) in Adobe Premiere Pro

Might also try with a few clips at a time instead of the whole bulk in one go

While I appreciate your reply and help, I don't think this is the right answer. My Macbook Pro is less powerful then my desktop, yet runs it fine without the constant 'Media pending' screen. Playback, when the clips are able to be loaded, is perfectly fine. To add to this, I've been editing ProRes Raw with this exact processor, RAM and GPU setup for a year now and have never had this issue.

The link you gave me only has solutions for when the clips are actually placed on the timeline, which is something I don't get to half the time between crashes. (I'll open up a new project, import and it won't be able to load the clips, say media pending and crash).

I can try the few clips at a time, that's actually a helpful idea, since it might indeed not be wise to import 400GB worth of clips in one go. Although this will give me issues later down the line. If this doesn't solve it, my only remaining solution seems to be to reinstall Windows, and hope that solves it.

Thanks for reaching out!
