Question

Premiere very slow to begin playback--and freezes a lot

Hello,

I'm working on an approximately 2 hour timeline for a documentary. I push play. I wait for 30 seconds (28 last time I timed it) for the timeline to play. It plays. I push stop. I razor blade a clip. The program freezes. I force quit and relaunch. This happened a half a dozen times within about 15 or 20 minutes. I reboot the computer but everything is still the same. Just about every time I push play it takes about 30 seconds to actually play.

I have a lot of interview clips in the timeline that use lumetri color so I have tried to turning them off, but this hasn't made much difference.

Any ideas? Could this be a software or hardware issue?

Hey this is new: as I was typing this, Premiere was hidden. I did a "get info' on the hard drive array (promise pegasus 10TB from 2013) and it spun up. When it did, the timeline began playing all on its own--Is this relevant?

Thanks for any help you can provide

Paul

I should probably add that the image on the program monitor is very slow to update if I simply move the playhead, sometimes taking as long as 30 seconds to update. Very hard to accomplish anything.
