Preparing Subtitles for DVD

I am in the last stages of post production on a documentary with foreign speakers.  For a US audience I need to have subtitles that can be activated or deactivated in the DVD menu options.  What is the best workflow/ type of captions to create for this application?

In Encore you can make subtitles for dvd that one can turn on and off.

I believe what you're looking for is called  "closed captions". From the typical comments on here, many have troubles with captions in PrPro, but at least if you search here and on the web for "Premiere pro closed captions" you should find what you need.

I believe what you're looking for is called "closed captions".

Closed Caption and DVD subtitles are two technically different things.

"Subtitles are stored as bitmap images and therefore can contain messages in any language. Subtitles are restricted to four colors, including transparent "color", and thus tend to look cruder than permanent subtitles on film.[33] Transparency allows laying subtitles over the video during playback.[34] The subtitle tracks are contained within the VOB file of the DVD.

DVD Video may also contain closed captioning material which can only be viewed on a television set with a decoder."
