Preserve Motion Effect Linearity on Ripple Edit

Hi all - not sure if I missed something in boot camp.

Scenario : a clip in the timeline has scale / position keyframes at start / end to create (Ken Burns) motion effect.

I now need to remove several sections of the clip (razor tool / ripple delete).

If I do this there are obvious jumps in the scale / position values (and obviously output vision).

What is the correct / best way to get this motion linear over the remaining clip portions?

Thanks!

Correct answer Ann Bens

Select the last keyframes and move them to the left.

edit the clip and put the keframes back to the new end or

You could make a preset upfront and set this to scale.

Ann Bens has the answer - workflow.  If you have set the duration and movement of the clip(s) and then want to change the duration(s) you need to move your keyframes so they are not in the area being deleted and then move them back after the deletion OR remove them, make your duration change then add them back to the clip(s).  Very annoying but that's how Premiere works.

In another editing platform (@vid), in certain circumstances, when you edit a clip the software compensates for the duration change making for a smoother workflow.  Just sayin'...

After almost 20 years editing on the other system and now 3+ years on Premiere I will say that there are big pluses to each system and minor minuses to each system.   Overall Premiere is great.  My two cents...

I'm a little confused.  You'll end up with jump cuts if you remove portions of the clip.  That's generally not a good thing.

It's an instructional assembly video. There's a few sections (of several clips) we've decided to remove for the sake of brevity so there's no jump cut to be seen. Some other sections will end up getting time lapsed (duration change) for the same reason.

So it looks like I will need to remove existing keyframes, razor, ripple delete, nest, re-keyframe.

Cheers!

I'm not sure I follow.

For example if I take the clip (which has keyframes at the start and end) and make two razor tool cuts (making 3 clip sections of equal length) and remove the middle third I have a keyframe at the start (of the first section) and a keyframe at the end (of the third section) but playback has a huge jump in the values in the middle (where the middle section was removed)...

Yes that is correct.

Might want to change your workfow.

Make the clip the length you want, then add keyframes.

Or if the first and last section are not the same: nest, then add keyframes.
