Preserving IPTC Core Metadata

Hi there,

I work with a large volume of captured footage that has to be color-corrected, stabilized, etc., and then tagged with metadata for an in-house media library. The library requires that we use the IPTC Core fields, which works fine in Bridge. At the moment I add metadata after editing in PR, in small batches. It would save a lot of time though, if I could batch metadata to the source footage during ingest before editing, and have that metadata be re-applied to the exported files, or "passed-through." I know there is an option in PR for preserving source metadata, but the IPTC Core fields are not listed there as they are in Bridge.

Am I missing something? Is this a feature that I'd need to request, or am I hitting a functionality boundary? My knowledge of metadata is limited, so I'm open to explanations.

Thanks!

Correct answer Zondervan123

So after some more experimentation, it turns out that metadata fields are independent of the groupings assigned by the software- the "description" and "keywords" fields in IPTC are the same fields in Dublin Core, and will transfer back and forth between PR and Bridge. So my problem is a different, unrelated one now, and I'll mark this answered.

At the bottom right of the Export Settings dialog, there's a Metadata button.  Opening that up, it looks like Preserve All is the default setting, which does include ITPC Core Properties.

Jim,

Thanks for your answer- the IPTC fields are vastly different between Core in Bridge and Core Properties in PR. I'm not sure why PR would have only a couple of fields and not the whole group.

I've not used Bridge in years.  That discrepancy I can't speak to at all.  Sorry.
