Question

Preview different than exported result (Colors are off)

I've looked literally everywhere, I will keep this short and simple. Long story short, my exported footage looks way different to the same footage that's shown in premiere pro's preview. It doesn't just look different in my media player, no, literally everywhere. If anyone could help me that would highly appreciated.

Thanks

Thank you ... and yea, that's a pretty standard mp4 60fps file.

The part that most puzzles me is the comment that it looks different on reimporting inside Premiere than the original sequence does. Is anything set into the Effects tab of the Export dialog?

Are these exports direct from Premiere or queuing through MediaEncoder?

OK ... this is bizarre.

So back to some basics: what is that media you're importing? What's the format/codec, and how was it created ... screen-grab it seems, and if so, by what software?

Something that would help for that information is MediaInfo, a free and safe download that "we" use a lot around here.

MediaInfo download page: https://mediaarea.net/nn/MediaInfo/Download

After installing that utility applet, simply drag & drop a clip onto the icon for it on the desktop. Then when that app comes up, it gives a list of viewing options ... choose "Tree View". Make a screen grab of the video tab information, and post that back here.

That image is WAY off. And again, when you export with "import into project" checked, and see the export within Premiere, it's still that far off?

Now what are the monitors set to do? This can vary widely. I've got a BenQ PD2720U that has "modes" for everything from an attempt to do P3 (it only covers 96% before calibration ... um ... ) through CAD mode (whatever that is, it's VERY bright!) and several others.

Do you have a Rec.709 mode avaialable in either monitor per chance?

none of my monitors have an option to change "mode"

I don't think that my problem has anything to do with the monitors because the preview inside premiere pro 2019 DOES show the right colors

At least you're on a PC, and I know how those typically work.

First thing ... right-click the desktop, click "display settings", and for both monitors, select a monitor then see what it says it is using for ICC profiles, and give us that information. Also, what are the monitors you have?

It sounds like you don't have any calibration gear, so we'll leave that out for now.

Premiere is carefully hardwired to be used on a properly setup system using broadcast video standards. This sort of thing shows the system is not set up to meet those standards.

Over 90% of video media is created and produced to video sRGB/Rec.709/gamma-2.4/100 nits broadcast standards. Which Premiere works perfectly within.

So ... what is your system?

One of my first suspects is you're on a newer Mac with the very non-standard and unique"Display-P3" color space Apple created. Unfortunately, besides having an unusual color space, the Mac ColorSync utility doesn't properly remap Rec.709 media appropriately either.

So ... again, what is your system,  the OS and the monitors used? What color space are they set to, and have you done any calibration and especially any profiles after calibration to check the calibration?

I'm sorry, I have no idea what most of this means. I'm on a windows 10 device with two monitors. Both monitors have a RGB color format and SDR color space. I don't really know what other info I can give you, I hope this helped.

Does it look different on the timeline if it is imported back into Premiere Pro?
