Question

preview monitor freezing for several minutes

I'm at a loss of how to approach this issue. In my project, whenever I move the timeline marker, this will cause the preview to freeze, but not the entire program. If I try to do enough while the preview is frozen, the entire program will freeze. However, it never crashes. It always sorts itself out after a few minutes, but it happens constantly.

Occasionally, the sound will play, but the video will freeze, or even go to black.

I have tried:

-proxies

-CUDA rendering

-software rendering

-reseting workspace

-deleting preferences

-updating gpu

-Software rendering

I am primarily editing 1080p footage, with about 10% of it being 4k, and 10% being at 1080p 60fps. But the sequence is at 1080p 30fps

Nvidia GTX 1070

Intel i7 4770k

16gb RAM 1333 MHz

I've tried experimenting with transcoding, but I'm not sure I'm doing it correctly? Everything is H.264, and I attempted ProRes 422 with no luck.

I even tried rendering an in and out segement of the project, and it didn't help either.

I appreciate any help

Your hardware is not overwhelming, especially the 16gb of memory. When I've seen this kind of thing it's usually the computer/PP trying to catch up. What kind of proxies are you working with, h.264? Cineform or ProRes proxies would be great to try and should help alot. If you are using h.264, that's a non-starter. You might as well use the original footage. You didn't mention deleting your cache, here's an easy way:

• Start PP from it's normal desktop icon (IE: don't open from a project file link).
Close the Open/Home screen (and you will be in PP without a project open).
• Go into Edit/Preferences/Media Cache (Mac users adjust menu name)
• Then Press: Remove Media Cache Files: and Delete...
• Select: Delete all media cache files from the system and OK
Close PP - It will create any needed cache files on the fly as you edit.
