Preview window lag

Hello, so I recently built a new editing PC. Switching from my macbook air to this new PC has been great, but for some reason my preview window has a tendency to lag heavily whenever I try to change the position of something. For example, I was trying to use the write on effect and I couldn't even drag the brush in the preview window. I would try to change the position of it in the effects control tab and it would take ages to update and sometimes it'll only update if I click on the timeline for some reason. The write on effect isn't the only one this would happen for it's just the most recent example. What could be causing this? I have an AMD 3600x 6 core processor and 32 gb of ram. My 2017 macbook air wouldn't even have this happen and it had an old processor and only 8 gb of ram.

Hello Joseph,

Sorry for this. Is it H.264 footage? If so, you don't have Quick Sync hardware decoding with AMD CPUs, which assists greatly with H.264 file handling, but you do with your old "Air." Recommend you transcode your footage to ProRes. Let us know if that's the issue.

Thanks,
Kevin
