Question

Previews disappear and export options limited after updating GPU driver

Hello--

I've been struggling with two big problems after updating the driver to my NVIDIA Quadro GTX 4000 graphics card. This PC has had no issues with Premiere Pro in the past.

First, I can't make any changes in the timeline without all my previews disappearing. I have to toggle the track output for my video twice in order to make the previews reappear, but it's only until I make another change, then I have to toggle the output again. It's making my job absolutely impossible. All the preview bars are yellow, then I make a change and the preview bars disappear and my program window goes black.

The other problem I'm running into is that I'm unable to export my files with any options to manage its bitrate. I need to export files with a minimum bitrate of 20mbps but the option to set target bitrate, to use VBR 1-pass or 2-pass, those have all disappeared in the export settings.

It seems to me like this has to do with some miscommunication between my graphics card and Premiere, but I'm not sure what to do to fix it.

I'm on Windows 10 Pro for Workstations version 22H2, version 23.5.0 Build 56 of Premiere and I'm using the 536.25 version of NVIDIA's driver for this card, the most recent.

Would really appreciate an explanation of these issues and some advice.

ProRes bitrates are set by the particular flavor of ProRes you use ... LT, 420, 422, 4444, etc. You never have options to set the bitrate ... you choose the "flavor" with the needed bitrate. Just like with DNx options.

The bitrate choices come with H.264/5 mp4 exports.

Hi, I don't need to set the exact bitrate, I need to be able to set target and maximum bitrate and use the VBR 2-pass option to export ProRes 422 files. Which has been present under "More" in Video export settings for this exact codec until I updated my graphics driver a few days ago, and now I no longer have the option for that.

I just went back through 2022 and 2021 Premiere. Checked ProRes 422, all other flavors ... the export options are exactly the same as the ones you show.

As for your preview disappering i have no idea. Might want to do a clean install of the driver.

Set target bitrate to 20 mbps. Dont think there ever was a setting for minimum bitrate.

I can't set a target bitrate at all. All options to manage bitrate are removed besides a checkbox for "Limit data rate to 1000kbps."
