Pro Res Raw Playback issues on Mac in Premiere V25.3 Build 84

I have started experiencing issues since the update of Sequioa on my Mac. I have the latest version of Premiere Pro (V25.3 build 84) and all of my drivers are up to date both in MacOS and Adobe. I shoot Pro Res Raw via a shogun inferno and have never had any issues with the codec in premiere. In fact, Premiere's ability to handle this footage easily is one of the reasons I stay with the software. I have recently been working on a project for a client and noticed something I couldn't explain. I would render out all of my footage in the timeline, taking everything from yellow to green, and playback would be smooth. However, when I started to scrub through footage, everything would revert back to yellow, causing me to have to re-render again. The files never left their folder, and it is really slowing down my workflow. I spoke with Adobe about this and we opened up a ticket, but nobody could seem to figure out the why, or the troubleshoot for this issue. For reference, all footage is shot in 23.98fps, Panasonic Vlog, with a 5.7k raw file format reduced to 1080p in timeline. All render files are QT ProRes 422 LT at 1280p. Additionally, I have done all of the media cache file management in the software, and through the adobe common folder in the Mac Library architecture.

I initially thought this may have been an issue that project specifically, but I opened up another project I was working on a little while ago that the issue did not exist in, and now it is present in that project as well. Anyone who can shed some light on this, would be greatly appreciated.

@Rach McIntire

When I updated to Sequoia, I was using a 24 version of premiere and have since upgraded to 25. My current version of Sequoia is 15.5, and I had just installed the newly released patch from Apple with new debugs for various footage formats. (Yes, I did a full restart of my machine) My Premiere version is 25.3 Build 84. Playback will go smoothly, with no issues, but when scrubbing through green clips, they will revert to yellow. Since posting, I have tested this with other types of footage, dji mavic footage, and Sony FX3 footage, and the same issue happens with these types as well. My footage lives on external thunderbolt 3 G-Raid drives, as the file sizes are prohibitive from having them live natively on my Mac's internal HD. (This is always how I have done things, and have never had this issue before.) As far as playback, I am viewing in the playback monitor at various resolution rates, full, 1/2 or 1/4 depending on which stage of the editing process I am in; lower playback resolutions for initial viewings, and higher res for finer edits, and coloring. I am not working with proxies, as playback has not been an issue with the Pro Res Raw codec on my machine, so proxies haven't been necessary for my workflow. As I have stated in my initial comment, there was an open ticket after I had called Adobe support directly, and there was nothing they were able to do to mitigate the problem, so I wanted to open it up to the community to see if anyone else had experienced the same issue. One weird bit of info I wanted to add, as I have just rendered the timeline of my project again. After re-rendering, the scrubbing issue is still happening, but not to every clip. I am finding that each subsequent re-render, fewer clips are showing the issue.

Hi @Owl & Stag Productions,

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums!  We’re happy you’ve reached out.  I'm sorry to hear your playback performance isn't as expected.  You said this problem started after updating Sequoia, not after updating Premiere?  What version of Sequoia are you using?  I have seen some issues with recent versions of Sequoia, but none that would lead to playback problems.

Does the footage play back fine, and is it just the scrub that's causing problems, or is it both?
What do you have your playback set to in the Program Monitor?  Full/ Half, etc?  Are you working with proxies?  Where does your media live?
We’ll need a bit more info to try to help with your issue. Please see: How do I report a Problem?   I hope we can help you soon.
