Problem with Layer Blend Modes

Hi, first time here so go easy on me.

I have a problem I'm trying to solve with a work project: I created a white color matte for a scene to give it a white background, but I have layers above that set to transparency blending, and instead of treating the white like a background, it factors it in when blending. So for example, I have a blue square on a layer above the white matte, and if I set the blue square to Color blend mode, it shows all white (instead of, say, just staying blue when I have a project in Illustrator, because in Illustrator there's a white background but no actual white object). I have looked everywhere and can't find that there's any option in Premiere to lock or exclude blending like in Photoshop or After Effects, and I can't find any other posts about this same issue. And of course, the white matte is the only way to get a white background.

Any suggestions?

Little difficult to picture the scene without seeing the timeline and the Effect Controls.

But usually you have to nest in between to get the desired effect.

Here's a screenshot. Sorry, I should say "clips" not layers, blending applies to individual clips.

So the two PNGs I highlighted above are set to Color blend. The color matte is white. The result is that the two PNGs blend to be almost fully transparent/all white, unlike in Illustrator or any other application where it would remain teal or gold. The reason being Premiere treats the color matte like a white object and includes it in the blending for the PNGs. I don't want this.

How much of this would I have to nest, and what does that placement and blending look like?

Well that does not help much.

Timeline with with extracted tracks and thumbnail and the ECP with the png .

    Program monitor showing results.
