Problem with using the write-on effect in Premiere Pro 2023

I'm trying to draw some lines on a staic image in a track using Premiere Pro 2023.

In this video by AdobeMasters the author is able to drag the brush with his mouse to create lines on the track.

As you can see from my screen recording the brush will not move when I try to drag with my mouse.

Any suggestions please?

You may be able to drag it if you select the Effect in the Effect Control Panel.

I gave up trying to use the Write-On effect in PP, but it's real easy in After Effects, here's a link to a good, less than 4 minute video: https://youtu.be/sArQZnpNY5s

I just noticed that the Write-On effect in PP 2023 is located in the Obsolete folder.  Could explain a lot.

I'll give AE a try.  Thank you.

I had this same problem, for some reason, the Write-on effect doesn't work on images. it has to be placed on video. Unfortunately, I have to circle some elements in these images, so I'm trying to figure out a workaround.
