ça me rend dingue.

When you hover over the Mask tool icon in the Tool bar of the timeline, there is a pop-up with a link to the documentation for using the new masking system.

You must read that documentation or you will not be able to work as you expect!

The new system is vastly more powerful but is controlled very differently. You will not figure it out until you read that section of their online help.

In your first vid, notice the “Clip” in the Program monitor? That tells Premiere that the masking is done auto by Premiere for the clip. Not frame by frame. Click on that, and you should get the option to go to Frame mode, where it does animate the mask manually.

That is an example of what is different, and how different it is.

OMG thank you so much, Clip and Frame mode was actually the source of the problem. I’ll go and read the documentation. Thanks again!

It is so confusing at first, but after reading the doc and a few minutes working the various options, it becomes more clear how to work with this system. And after enough times muscle memory kicks back in and speed returns …
