Project organization? Template? I am confused.

Dear all,

I am an absolute beginner to Premiere Pro v25.

I have setup a folder structure on my harddisk that contains one project:

Tutorial 1

--Export

--Media

----Images

----Video

----Audio

Project (this contains the .prporj file)

In Premier Pro, I have a Bin structure that has the same organization.

Now, I want to copy the harddisk folders to Tutorial 2 but use a different video (which I would then place in 'Video' and add to the corresponding Bin in Premier Pro.

However, the media (video, logos, etc) still point the the files in Tutorial 1 on my harddisk.

-I tried Project Manager --> Consolidate. This does not copy my folder structure

-I have see that I can (temporarily) change the name of Tutorial 1, such that Premier does not find the files and I can manually relink all media. Does not seem to be a good approach?

My question is: what is the correct workflow for handling a situation like this where I want to make a series of tutorials and just want to replace the video?

If you have the budget for a paid third party tool, the template workflow of my extension Automation Blocks is very flexible and powerful:

It helps you to stay consistent by copying both folders on the harddrive and bins inside a project from a template. It cannot just copy those from the template, but also adjust their names, such that you have on your harddrive for example

Tutorial 1/Project/Tutorial 1.prproj
Tutorial 2/Project/Tutorial 2.prproj

and inside the "Tutorial 1.prproj" a sequence might have the name "Tutorial 1 - Master", for example, whereas it is automatically named "Tutorial 2 - Master" in the second project.

Premiere makes its own internal database details for every file/asset imported into the app. Changing things externally has no effect on Premiere's internal database ... and the Project file is essentially a mix of text and database information.

So set up a Template project, many do have a single placeholder file in each bin ... but when you copy that and rename the copy for your new project, you delete the old contents and import new. You can't simply expect Premiere to read the drives. It won't.

There are a couple plugins that can help with this like Excalibur I think it is ... but that is of course a paid thing to add on.

If you are having trouble with the very basics like bins then Get yourself a subscription at linkedin and learn the basics properly before venturing

on making tutorials.

Premiere has a steep learning curve .

Otherwise making stuff with premiere is not going to be fun

Thanks, but I do not want to master Premiere. I can make videos with titles, music, effects, etc. But I don't seem to be able to figure out the best-practice approach for organizing a project. I have looked at quite a few youtube videos and other links but still am confused. I know that I have to do my home work, but I don't have the time. In fact, I am helping out other people with Cubase which I do master but is for music production. In this context I want to be able to make a some simple videos explaining cubase functionalities. Thus, any help is appreciated.

Organizing a project is for everyone different.

YouTube is full of tutorials: good ones and bad ones. As a novice, you have no idea which are suitable to follow. And on top of that, Premiere is changing fast.

That is why I suggested LinkedIn.

If you do not have time to learn the program first then making movies and it does not matter if they are tutorials or a feature film it will be aggravating and sometimes disappointing,
