Project Panel Empty and Sequence missing from past auto-saved and manually saved project.

I have backups of old projects that I am trying to recover on my new computer from both my old hard drive as well as some portable hard drives. Every single project opens properly, even after updating to Adobe PP 2025, but for some reason, every single backup I had for this one project (named VAP), both the original saved files, the backups, and the auto-saves open as demonstrated in the attached picture, with no sequence and the project panel completely vacant.

 

I've gone through Adobe 23 - 25, installing them to see if the older versions make a difference, but they all produce the same result; I have not tried 21 or 22 because it did not appear as an option on Adobe CC, but I would also assume the same result based on the previous three attempts, and only one of the project files goes back to 21 anyway.

 

The most frustrating thing is, before I upgraded my computer, everything worked perfectly, but out of the multiple older and newest versions of this one project (VAP), not a single one contains anything as if they are new project files altogether.

 

For reference, I have transferred my old hard drive to the new computer, but no matter the source, the old hard drive, or the backups on all of my portable hard drives, still nothing.

 

Any help is appreciated!

 

P.S. To save some time, based on all the threads I have read with similar concerns, I can 100% guarantee that nothing was either deleted intentionally or by mistake; I would have to have opened every single old file and deleted the project media and sequence, and it would be an idiotic assessment of events.

    How old are the .prproj files?


    What happens if you open a new, empty project and then use File > Import to import VAP.prproj?

    If you believe your old computer had a working version of the VAP project, restoring it from a backup might be your best shot at recovering the project. Here's how you can approach it step by step:

    1. Check Your Backup

    First, make sure you have a proper backup from your old computer. This could be a full system image or a backup created by software like Acronis, Macrium Reflect, or even Windows' built-in tools. It’s important that the backup was made when the VAP project was still working.

    2. Restore the Backup

    If you have the backup, here’s what you can do:

    • Using Windows' Built-in Tools:

      1. Plug in the drive where the backup is stored.
      2. Restart your computer and boot into Recovery Mode. You can usually do this by pressing F8 or holding Shift while restarting.
      3. From the recovery options, choose System Image Recovery and point it to your backup.
      4. Follow the steps to restore the old system. If possible, restore it to a different drive or partition so you don’t overwrite your current setup.

    • Using Third-Party Software: If you used software like Acronis or Macrium Reflect, launch the program and select the backup file. Most of these tools allow you to restore the system to a new drive or create a virtual machine from the backup.

    3. Open the Restored System

    Once the backup is restored:

    • Boot into the old system where the project worked.
    • Open Adobe Premiere Pro and check the VAP project.
    • If it opens properly, save it as a new project file or export it as an XML/EDL file for extra security.
