Project Playback Seriously Lagging

I have been using Premiere with the machine and setup for years now. This is the first time I've had this problem.

When I try to play the video files in the timeline it has a lag of about 5 seconds, making editing impossible.

I already deleted preferences, plugin and media cache files as well as reset workspaces. Attached is an analysis of one of the video files using the program MediaInfo.

This appears to only be a problem with this project. Can anyone help me troubleshoot? Thanks!

BTW: I'm also using proxies (I use proxies on all my projects) and there is still a lag with playback.

thanks.  it isn't always easy to diagnose these problems remotely.  Can you create a new user on your computer and try working with the project.

First:  have you installed any new hardware, or system upgrades or software that might have installed something that's causing the problem.  As a troubleshooting step, you might try disconnecting your network or wifi and see if that makes any difference.  Are you running any other programs at the same time?  Is it possible your media drive is failing?

You might try transcoding your source files to and i-frame codec something like prores 422 where every frame is complete unlike mp4 files which are gop codec where only the first and for example 15th frame are complete and the frames inbetween are just the differences which makes for much smaller file sizes but require much more processing power.  what format are your proxies?  Again I'd suggest and iframe codec like prores proxy which is what I use.

I haven't installed any hardware or system upgrades. This problem started this week. I upgraded adobe premiere after it started (hoping that would fix it, but it hasn't).

Disconnecting the wifi didn't solve the problem.

I doubt it's the media drive. I have another project on it and there aren't any issues with that project.

My proxies are 1280 x 720 h264 files. I don't have problems with this format on other projects but I'll try switching to mov pro res to see if that makes a difference.

and here's where you can download handbrake.

hover over the first video stream til you get a more detailed report and see if the material is variable frame rate.  If so, use handbrake to convert to a constant frame rate.

Thanks. It wasn't recorded in variable frame rate.

Try creating a new project and import the old one into it.

Thanks. I forgot to mention I tried that but it didn't have any noticeable effect.
