ProRes 422 vs. H.264

Hi all,

I have a sequence composed of some ProRes 422 files and some H.264 files. This short reel will be playing on TV and was hoping to export the best quality. From my understanding "ProRes 422" is a higher quality than H.264 ? If I export the project as ProRes 422, is that an issue for the clips that are H.264 within the sequence?

Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks so much !

If you're on a PC, you can't export in ProRes, that's an Apple possession and like most kindergartners they're very possessive of their toys.

Yes, ProRes 422 is vastly better than any H.264 for possible quality though much bigger in file size.

On a PC, the Cineform 10-bit YUV or DNXHD/R options are both quite high in quality.

Exporting out of one generation (camera originals) of H.264 to something else is probably a good thing.

****ALSO WHERE IS THE OPTION TO EXPORT PRORES 422??? I do not see this in the dropdown menu. I see a "Quicktime menu" with various "presets" but none of them are ProRes 422.... any ideas on what would be the highest quality export settings for footage that is originally 1920 × 1080 Apple ProRes 422 QuickTime movie files? Thanks in advance
