Proxy editing workflow - editing away from a workstation on a mobile/laptop device...

Hello all, apologies if this has already been asked but I didn't specifically find the answer.

So If you have a medium scale project (say a concert consisting of 4 bands playing for 45 minutes) with 9 cameras...

If I import the clips...etc then create proxies... In theory, I can make the original clips 'online' and copy the project over to a external drive then edit the proxies on a laptop/macbook/surface...etc - I can then open the same project on my workstation and 'online' the original clips and the edit will be exactly as it was but using the original source footage?

My issue with this theory is that Premier doesn't show proxies in the browser natively? So if I 'online' the originals, the clips are not accessible anymore? Is there a way of doing this? (I can import the proxies on a mobile device..etc but ill have to manually find/search and replace each clip when bringing the project back to the workstation?

Kind regards,

AJ

Create the proxies properly in the project on the desktop, in a folder of their own.

Copy the project file and the folder of proxies to your laptop. When you open the project on the laptop, and it says missing media,  select "offline all" for the original files.

But link the proxies to their folder on the laptop. And work away.

yikes.

That's a very good question !

Just to get a basic workflow in my head going.. using 2 computers for the same project, I have to whittle it down to real simple stuff.

Let's say I had a desktop with a lot of drives and program is on root, source is on D (raid), Cache is on E and exports are on F.

My settings reflect that in my project... as much as possible using PPro.

So now I want to edit the same thing on a laptop with maybe 2 drives. Programs and OS on SSD root, Data on folders of drive D.

How can I do that using one video from one camera and xfer the stuff back and forth and convince the desktop that what I did on the laptop should be considered the 'new and improved' edit ???

Apparently there is something called 'workgroups' in PPro where 'teams' can work together.  I think they need the original source materials installed on all computers, regardless of where they are located ( like they don't have to have the exact same folder structure and paths to cache, etc. ).  I'm guessing here.. cause there's only one guy here who has mentioned how he uses this to work on stuff with people down in South Africa.

Maybe you have to set up a 'team' thing between your laptop and your desktop ?

Otherwise, I think you'd have to do EDL and or XML or something like that ???

If you can solve this problem using simple example, then getting into proxies (which can be generated on both computers independently anyway ) I think you'd have your answer.
