Proxy files makes me unable to open project

Hi guys,

I'm in such a pickle. Deadline is closing in fast on this project, and I am unable to open the project that my editor is working on.

We are a studio with multiple computers attached to a server. It has never been a problem to share projects over the server, but on this huge short film, we have made proxies to work with. However, after making the proxies other computers can't open the project.

It simply freezes at 75% whilst loading the project. I have noticed on the computer that CAN open the proxies that it opens the media files from the mapped network drive: Y:\project, and the proxy files it then open from \\server1\project which is strange, and I am certain it has something to do with the issue.

I've been trying to talk with Adobe support multiple times but with no success. They just ask if I have updated my GPU driver and when it becomes a bit too complicated the conversation tends to get disconnected, so I am now reaching out to you guys and hope for a solution.

Have anyone encountered a similar situation?

Thank you for the suggestion! I tried with two different projects, but it just does not work.

It does appear that Premiere for some reasons reads from the server in a total of 3(!!) different ways.

\\192.168.1.2 <- IP Address

\\server1 <- SMB path

Y:\server1 <- Mapped network drive

every logic in me tells me this must create some confusion in the system.

I was able to copy one project in it's entirety to a hard drive and to open it.

So this tells me if I am just able to disconnect all media in a proper way I might have a chance of making it work. It is so strange to me that making "Media Offline" does not work. The project still freezes when trying to open it.

Is this a Team Project?  Are you using Adobe Anywhere?

Hi Jim,

No it is not a Team Project. We just have access to the same server drives and have shared our projects like that for years.

For a quick fix, I'd try moving all your proxies onto a portable hard drive, relinking them on the computer that CAN open the project, saving that project, then moving the project file and the portable hard drive to the problem computer, and opening it again. My guess is that your problem computer has some sort of issue with its connection to the server, so its unable to pull the proxies from there, but if you keep them local, that will hopefully make it work.
