Hi, i am trying to use my sony FX6 intern recording proxies in premiere pro and it doesn't work. It says it is not the same audio settings on the rushes. Rush has 8 audio chanels. And if i try to create proxies with encoder...i cannot because of the format...i supposed problem is the mxf format.

So how can i use proxies for my workflow?

That is an ongoing problem with the proxies in Premiere. Just found out the other day, when a staffer posted on a similar thread, that the requirement for matching audio is because of offline/online needs.

That's where you offline the original media for the entire project, using the proxy media only, to get playback on a laptop or other 'smaller' computer with perhaps heavy codec originals.

Then at the end, you select the proxies, "offline" them, and relink to the original media for the final look through and export.

Which is still used, of course.

But A LOT of us don't ... we use proxies just for better playback, where the originals are still attached, and ... it would be better if Premiere only used the video part of the proxy file for playback only ... didn't even have attached audio. As the audio is already in the sequence.

That would make a lot of us get a better workflow bingo bango bongo.

Hello! I'm wondering if there have been any updates on this issue since this post...is there any way to succesfully use the FX6-generated proxies in Premiere? Thank you!

No, Premiere Pro requires matching audio channel configurations in order to switch between full-resolution and proxy files.

If you create proxies using Proxy > Create Proxies, Premiere Pro will generate them via Adobe Media Encoder with audio channels that match your original MXF files.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Select your MXF files in the Project panel.
  2. Right-click and choose Proxy > Create Proxies.
  3. In the dialog box, choose your desired Preset, Frame Size, optional Watermark, and Destination.

This will launch Media Encoder and begin generating the proxies.

If you close Premiere Pro before the proxy queue is complete, reopen your project, select the media again, and choose Proxy > Attach Proxies to manually relink them.
