Question Regarding Maximum Render Quality and Maximum Depth

Hello,

I need to export a huge amount of video for the DVD extras for my film. With maximum render quality and depth selected, it will take an inordinate amount of time. I'm wondering if I actually need them?

The footage is 4K and is being exported to 1080p (DNxHD). Because there is so much video on the DVD these extras are going to be heavily compressed (they are also ungraded).

I can't notice any difference at all when doing a test export between the options. Will it make any difference if I do not select the maximum quality settings for this project?

Many thanks

    Ann is completely correct.

If you have a GPU enable in the Project settings dialog, meaning the Mercury Acceleration is set to CUDA, OpenCL, or Metal, then neither Max Depth nor Max Render Q are needed.

The main use of those options is to ensure that if you don't have a functioning discrete GPU, the CPU uses GPU-style math to do the work. Rather than the slightly less-high-quality math the CPU would typically use for such things.

And Render Q is really about resizing, mainly ... if you're getting "jaggies" on diagonal lines for example.

If you have a dedicated gpu no need for Max render nor Max Depth.

On a side note you cannot use 1080p on a video dvd it needs to be SD (720x480/576).
