Question

Quick Zoom for different speakers

Hello. I am still learning premier and had a question. I have an interview involving two speakers, and I was hoping to find a way to make it more dynamic by zooming in when a specific speaker is talking. I guess like a jump cut. Is there an easy way to do this or is it going to be a lot of manually adjusting the zooms? Any Ideas or feedback would be welcomed.

I created tools for my (paid) extension Automation Blocks for Premiere Pro a tool which zoom the videos of two speakers in and out in one click:

Your case looks a bit different since you have only a single video instead of two, right?

But in Automation Blocks you can customize existing tools and create your own ones. So if you need this a lot you could write your own tools for "insert keyframe to zoom on speaker 1" and "insert keyframes to zoom on speaker 2" or "keyframe transition from speaker 1 to speaker 2".

One way is to create an adjustment layer with momentary effects across the edit cut.

An adjustment layer produces effects on video layers below it. So in a simple form you could have say 0.25secs of zoom from normal to 150% up to cut of taking head 1 then 0.25s of 150% to 100% of talking head 2. This is a very simple example.

Normally you can apply more types of effect like Lens distortion, Twirl, Transform.

You can build these yourself and reuse the Adjustment layer across your edits as required.

This might create a more dynamic cut you are looking for.

Third party transition effects packs exist which you can buy for Premiere Pro which offer loads of effects like this in a One off purchase Pack and take out the hard work of building your own.

Some are a bit gimmicky, others are very useful.

Use effects like this with care to avoid annoying those watching ! 🙂

Web sites like Envato Elements, Videohive.net have these to offer.

Like any third party site I always virus scan any download, but this is quite a well known site.

I have used some of these on occasions. Always go for products that have a lot of sales .... and of course good reviews and happy customers !.

You can download videos of the sample effects

You can learn about Adobe Premiere Adjustment layers here and experiment to create your own

There is no automatic way to do that.

You may want to place the main clip on video track 3, and zoomed versions of the clips on video tracks 1 and 2.

Then make your cuts of the tracks as needed.

Awesome. Thank you for that. I will try that out now. I did not even think of doing 3 seperate clips of video.
