Question

Random black frames in Premiere Pro

I am having an issue where random frames within my project will go black. In the middle of a clip anywhere from a few to sometimes almost 20 frames will just be black for some reason. There are often no effects or cuts in the places where this happens. This even persists when I export the project. If I go and edit that portion of the clip (i.e. speed change, color grading, adding an effect, etc.) it will sometimes fix it and the frames will come back. I have tried restarting Premiere, I have tried restarting my computer, I have tried reseting the preferences of Premiere, I have also tried rendering the sequence over and over. The frames are still gone when I render.

This problem seems to occur randomly and although I am usually able to work around it by just making random minor chages to the clip in question, it slows down my work flow considerably.

Hello, William

Although I am editor, I am no tech genius, what I'll tell you here is what helped me solve this issue. I do have to mention that I'm not sure if this is the correct way of solving it, yet it worked for me:
Go to "File" - "Project Settings" - "General"
A new window will appear. Now on "Renderer" - Select "Mercury Engine Software Only".
Select "OK" and close the window.
And it should work.
I hope this helps!

Hi Cinemozart, thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately thsi resulte in ALL black frames. So I went back to the old setting. But it was a good try.

Have you figured out how to fix it? I'm experiencing the same issue

I am having the same issue and I'm wondering if it is related to my Macbook Air M1. I thought the Macbook would be powerful enough to run Premiere Pro without glitches but I'm guessing maybe not.

Hi there!

Sorry about the issue. Can you provide your system details (OS, CPU, RAM, GPU)? Which device is used to record footage?

Would you mind posting a screen recording of the issue?

Let us know. Happy to assist

Thanks,

Kartika

Hi Kartika,

I will join @William25405750n8w5 in that. I'm using a Macbook Air M1, 8GB Ram.

Here is a photo of the issue:
