Razor tool not deleting video AND audio....

Something happened when I was working on a program. The razor tool used to cut through video and audio at the same time. And then a simple click on either audio or the video segment and hit DELETE would remove both audio and video. I could then drag the rest of the clip (audio and video) anywhere on the timeline. Whatever I did wrong, now the razor only cuts through either audio or video and then I have to click on the audio or video line and cut them separately. Now for some weird reason when I grab the clip it only takes either audio or video (whichever one I click on and grab). What the heck did I do and how do I get it back where the razor will cut through both audio and video and then how do I make it so when I click on the clip it takes BOTH audio and video together and moves it where I want it?

Thanks!

I had exactly this same problem today and found this question while looking for an answer.

(My problem started when I typed words while Premier was open and the selected program, thinking I was typing into a word file and not looking at the screen. Who knows how much I have accidentally changed...)

None of these replies solved it, but Jim_Simon is correct if a little more info is added.

I clicked the icon to the right of the magnet icon and it did not solve the problem. Video or audio still cut by itself.

But then I selected all tracks with the Track Select Forward Tool and clicked the icon to the right of the magnet icon with everything selected and VIOLA! Problem solved. My cuts are now back to normal.

    Hope this helps.

I have a somewhat similar problem. In my case, the video and audio are unlinked. I did that to manually sync my audio and video with a third sound recorded from a microphone. Now the problem is that I have synched it perfectly but there is a small part of the video that is out of sync and I want to just chop that part off with the razor tool. The audio on tracks 1 and 2 cuts well but the video track does not cut. It doesn't work whether I link or unlink it to the audio track. What's funny is, I have to zoom in to find that unwanted part of the video. When I zoom out, however, I am able to cut out other parts of the video but not the small unwanted part. I only encounter the problem when I zoom in.

I found your article cause I was having the same problem. What I did to get it to work:

    1. Ungroup clips

    2. Select clips you want to link/group, then right click and click LINK

Now you can razor and move both clips together.

I have been having the same problem with audio and video not selecting at the same time, as it always used to.  I found that Jim Simon's solution (turning the icon to the right of the magnet icon blue) works to get both audio and video to select at once, but there is a caveat.  If you modify the audio channel while it is still in the Project Panel, as you might to reduce the number of audio channels when you bring it into the timeline, then Premiere treats the audio as a separate file.

That's the "linked selection" icon, and when that's not toggled, "link" is off.

And I loved that you posted this here, because I've known about that for a long time ... enough to forget to even think about it anymore. So in a current project I was having that weird problem also, and had just realized I'd forgotten to check that icon. Then your post came up in my Queue, so ... timing was awesome.

I'm marking your answer correct, because ... it actually gets around multiple points in a hurry.

Click the icon to the right of the magnet in the sequence.  (Turn it blue.)

The one that says LINKED SELECTION. I did and it still doesn't link audio and video together. Really strange.

If that icon is blue and video and audio are not selected together, it's because they're two separate files on the hard drive.

In other words, it's not one clip, it's two separate clips.

Your audio and video tracks have become un-linked. Right-click on a clip, and select "link" and it should re-connect them.

Edit ... of of course, your audio track may be locked ... look to the left of the sequence, the track header block ... is the little padlock icon on the left end of the audio track blue and closed? If so ... it's locked. Click it so that it's gray and open.

Thank you. It's grey and open. But, when I right click on the clip, the LINK MEDIA option is greyed out.

Are you selecting both audio & video before right-clicking to select Link?
