Re rendering an .mxf render to speed up rendering time

Hi Community,

My Mac has started to slown down and presently I'm rendering a series in which each episode needs to be delivered with 3 different reference levels. (to 3 different networks)

I want to know if there are any known issues I may have with this work around I'm using.

I render my first (-12ref) as follows- MXF OP1a - XDCAM HD 50 NTSC 60I

This render takes about 2.5 hours. Rather than changing the volume levels and then rendering again, I take the MXF File and make a new sequence with it, change the volume to the new reference  level and render again with the same settings. MXF OP1a - XDCAM HD 50 NTSC 60I

This subsequent render takes only 20 minutes.

Is there any issues foreseeable with this method that is saving me hours of render time? Or is there a known better way.

Thanks in advance.

G

That is one of the ways I would do it too.

You could also perhaps make sure your sequence settings are MXF OP1a - XDCAM HD 50 NTSC 60I.

Preview render your sequence once then select 'use previews' when exporting. Exporting then 'should' be faster.

You don't say how long your program is or how complex any layers, mogrts or effects are in this program ... but it sounds like it may be taking longer than it should. You could also try changing your renderer for Hardware Encoder to Software Encoder or vice versa (under the video tab in the export window).

Addionally if you are going with the preview render option - play around with the renderer setting - >File > Project Settings> General> Renderer and alternate between 'GPU Acceleration' and 'Software only' choices.

While I've never tested this - experimenting with render speeds within the sequence trying out preview renders might indicate which is going to be faster.

A couple of years back we had a whole floor of Premiere Pro suites (Windows) that suddenly were taking 2 hours to export a 1 hour program that had previously only taken between 16-22 minutes. I was not privy to what the cause was.

Could have been PC graphics drivers? Of course that not something you have any control over on a Mac.

I also use Macs and have had this issue come up on occasions - never figured out why ... but changing to 'software' rendering often sped things up. Good luck!
