This happens because you're working with "stacked" panels. Some workspaces, like the Audio workspace, use stacked panels to save space, which can cause the Project panel to shrink when it has less items.
If you'd prefer the Project panel to stay at a consistent size, you have a couple of options:
- Choose a Workspace that doesn't include the Project panel in a stacked panel group.
- Alternatively, click the context menu for the panel and choose Undock Panel, then add it to another panel group that isn't stacked.
