Question

'Reassociate Source Clips' isn't linking certain sequences

Hi all, thanks in advance for any help people may be able to offer.

I've been working on a feature documentary for what seems like an eternity but, certainly since before the production workflow existed. It's now hit a point where the project file is so unmanageable that I have little choice but to convert it into production. Yes, I wish it existed when I started.

In the main this has gone very well, but I've hit a snag, some of my multicam sequences aren't reassociating even though others have and I can't figure out why as they were all to my knowledge made in the same way. So basic question is does anyone know why certain clips or sequences don't reassociate? I thought it might be to do with having effects on them in the timeline, but tests I've done on that front are inconclusive.

What I've done so far for the production.

I have imported the needed sequences from my old project file into new individual projects. My basic structure is a separate project for each Interview in the doc and a separate project for each scene in film.

Within each interview project there is a Multicam sequence with all the clips necessary clips for it. Each scene has imported everything it needs for that scene, this means that if Interview 01 features in 10 scenes, clip reference and the Multicam sequence for Inteview 01 will be repeated in all 10 scenes. It was my hope to go through all 10 scenes and 'reassociate source clips' and link all references back to the new Interview 01 project. This has worked for 95% of my sequences no problem, but for some it hasn't and it's consistently the same Multicam sequences that refuse to link up.

* Note I can get the clips for interview 01 that were imported into a scene to reassociate back to the Interview 01 project, but the Multicam sequence is always left behind.

I have just tried opening up the Interview 01 project and re-editing the required sections back into the Scene 01 project and deleting the old reference, hoping that it would then 'reassociate' but this worked for one interview but not the others, which is even more confusing.

I'm at a bit of a loss. Any help, workarounds or experience of known issues that affect clips reassociating would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Andrew

Did you ever figure this out Andrew, despite all of the crickets here? I am dealing with a similar issue. I cannot get some of my multicam masters to reassociate to my footage no matter how hard I try. there were a few that had modified audio channels that I had to fix for it to work but some others where there is nothing different, they are even pointing to the same footage on the finder level yet I cant reassociate or even put them in the same bin and consolidate, nothing works..

Hey @theblankbeard  I'm afraid not.

I wish I had better news for you. After wasting so much time trying to figure it out, and with 95% of the clips reassociating normally, I decided to manually import the "broken" clips.

So in the example I used above. Where interview 01 wasn't reassocating, I went back through every scene where interview 01 was present and reimported the clips from the new production version of my Interview 01 project. I was fortunate that the interviews I was using weren't main characters in the film, so it only took an afternoon.
