Recorded audio in Premiere Pro muffled/unclear

Hi all,

I have a weird issue that I cannot seem to resolve. I have recorded voice-overs in Premiere Pro just fine, with crisp sound and fine quality.

Now I have a new laptop from work, where I want to do the same with the exact same microphone (HyperQuad). However, on my new laptop the recordings are muffled, as if it's from a lower quality. I have checked the settings of Audio & Audio Hardware on both laptops, but they are the same. The Premiere Pro versions on both are the same. 

How is it that the voice recording on the one works perfect, and on my new laptop sounds muffled?

Well, unbelievable or not, I fixed the issue. Not in Premiere, but in Windows (11) itself. In system settings -> Audio and then under Input, the input volume was down and the option 'Audio Enhancement' was on. After turning this off, the audio works perfectly fine.

 

Hopefully this will help for future users. Check the Windows settings first!
