Rectangle tool not showing on timeline

My bad, it did show up in the timeline, it was just so small you couldn't see it.  I don't see how to delete questions....

When I draw a rectangle, it does not show in the timeline anywhere.  I can draw it, size it, change the colors, but cannot see it on the timeline (and control how long it's visible, etc.).  I feel like I must be missing something obvious, but can't recall ever having this problem before.
