Reframe 4:3 to 16:9 without black bars on the side

Hello,

Last week I edited a video that I recorded wih my GoPro (4:3). I started with the sequence size matching with my video size, which was 4:3, however, half-way into the edition I realized I would be exporting in 16:9, so I should be editing in 16:9. So I got into my sequence settings and changed it to 16:9. All the files on my timeline were adjusted to the new size, and centralized.

Today, I am strugling. I have tried to repeat the same process, but when I change the sequence size from 4:3 to 16:9, all it does is to show two black bars on both sides of the video. I want the video to be fit, as I did before, croping top and bottom, but fit on the sides.

I have tried the auto frame thing, but to make it fit, it only cuts off the bottom of my 4:3, it does not cut off top & bottom to center the video. So it looks odd.

I need help. The video is halfway, and I cannot open each one of the cuts to adjust the scale, it would be too much.

Please, give me a light.

here's what I suspect happened

4:3 is 1280x960
When you changed it the first time to 16x9 you changed the Height from 960 to 720 and thus, no black bars
When you changed it the second time, you changed the width from 1280 to 1700 ( or even 1920x1080) and thus, black bars.

you can either change the sequence settings resolution to any value where the width is always less than the original footage, or scale one clip up and either past attributes or save it as a preset and apply it to all. You can also add an adjustment layer with a transform effect, and scale up in the transform effect

... and if you want to reframe the shots slightly towards the top of frame i.e. so you are cropping less from the top than the bottom of frame you can use 'paste attributes' to copy the position settings from one clip to multiple clips.

Adjust the position settings for one clip, copy the whole clip and then select the clips you want to apply the position to.

> right click and then select 'paste attributes'.

On the 16:9 sequence timeline, select all the clips that are not filling frame and, once selected, right click on any one of the selected clips and choose "Set to Frame Size" in the drop down menu.
