Remove sharp noises from audio

I've got an audio track with lots of distracting noises. Namely, my subject's chair creaks loudly throughout the video.

I need a method of isolating just those moments of the clip and "delete" them without leaving a hole in the audio.

The best solution I've come up with is to isolate the unwanted sound with cuts and replace it with a quiet part from the clip. But this is giving me very mixed results, in addition to being tedious.
