render in to out not working on a small section of timeline

I am trying to render a segment where images (jpgs) appear over the footage then disappear.

It has a yellow bar over the area so I tried to render but the "error compiling movie erorr unknown" message pops up with the red triangle. I don't think it even needs rendering but this is concerning. Any ideas what I should do?
