Question

Rendered H.264 .mp4 video file starts again from the beginning at some point of the file

Hello!

I`m having an issue with Premiere pro and Media Encoder, so this happens no matter which of them I use to do the rendering/encoding.

When I try to render an .mov file into an .mp4 using H.264 Youtube 2160p 4K Ultra HD -preset, my rendering goes through normally, but at some point of rendering it starts the videofile from the beginning.
So for an example it renders 3 minutes of my 17 minute video, and then suddenly continues rendering the file but starts the video from the beginning (where the first 3 minutes started from).

So I end up with a .mp4 videofile, that is 17 minutes long and has for example the first 3 minutes of the video correctly from the start, but then it suddenly starts again from the beginning of the original file and then the rest 14 minutes of video are out of sync with the sound by those 3 minutes that it rendered first. And the last 3 minutes of the video are missing, so its not like i can just sync it again with the sound, like i could if the rendered video file was those 3 minutes longer (so 20 min), since it comes out as the same lenght as the original (17 minutes).
The sound is normal through the whole file, it doesn´t start again like the video does.

I have never had this kind of issue before.
I have also tried using older versions of Premiere and Media encoder (versions 13.1.5) and the problem is still happening.

And before someone suggest these most obvious fixes:

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Premiere, Media Encoder and even the Creative Cloud desktop app multiple times now. Yes i have restarted my PC and yes i have tried different presets for rendering. And the .mov file it self works normally.

I´m sorry for my confusing explanation, english is not my first language and it´s hard for me to explain something like this.

Please send help!

I'm experiencing the same problem! Very frustrating! You aptly explained this issue. After hours of rendering a 17 minute video with mov clips that I  recoded in 4K @ 30fps with my iPhone Pro Max in Adobe Premiere Pro CC, some of the clips repeat the beginning. Others do not. I too have tried reinstalling the CC apps and am right now indtalling the updates again. Using proxies for the timeline has helped in the editing process, and converting problem videos to H.264 mp4 fixes this issue, but this is incredibly time consuming. I'm about ready to give up with Apple's high efficiency format photos and videos. Yes, the quality is amazing, but if you are like me and post your videos on YouTube and photos on social media sites, who really notices the difference? Adobe, you are letting your devoted users down in a big way.

Hi wingettr!

I installed free program called Handbrake, which you can find here: https://handbrake.fr/

and used it to convert my .mov file into .mp4 file with the preset "Production max". It seems to have fixed the issue, because the .mp4 file is now normal and doesn`t have that "starting over again" -problem.

I`m guessing the issue lies within the adobe programming, since Handbrake converted it into a normally working .mp4 file, without an issue.

Really hope this helps you too, and even more I really hope that Adobe will do something about this.

Hi Vhal!

Thank you for replying and for suggesting Handbrake for converting the iPhone HEVC (mov) vidoes to MP4. However, this is easily done using Adobe Media Encoder 2020 or within Premiere Pro CC itself. That said, Adobe should fix this issue so that you don't have to convert the videos first. Doing this consumes a lot of time and storage space unneccesarily.
